Built on firm foundations
MRCE is built on a strong lineage of foundation pioneers, each developing innovations in design and construction. Founded in 1910 and guided by generations of experience, MRCE engineers continue to build a foundation legacy for the future.
Daniel E. Moran, founding principal (1910–1937)
In 1892, young civil engineer Daniel Moran witnessed the failure of an airlock for a pneumatic caisson that killed several workers. He went on to design a safe and economical airlock that eliminated the problem. His patented pneumatic caisson airlock made New York's skyscrapers possible and allowed bridge foundations to reach previously unattainable depths.
The archive
MRCE's archives of geologic and historical maps date back to the 17th century. If a client's site isn't already mapped in our Boring Books archive, our database of historic geologic and site maps may prove invaluable when soil or site history is the key to understanding performance.
Our in-house laboratory has developed correlations between inexpensive tests and engineering properties for many soil types. MRCE has been involved in over 12,000 building projects around the world.
